Ideal Customer Profiles for Books, Branding and Beyond

Whether you are creating your ideal customer profile for your book or for another type of brand, the philosophies are strikingly similar. Just like you wouldn’t target everyone for your new brand of kicks, your book is going to have a distinct reader. Therefore, companies dedicated to creative industries should get into the process of making ideal customer profiles. In a recent video segment with Design Rush, Desireé Duffy highlights why making these profiles is crucial for branding purposes. Her video can be viewed here: Ideal Customer Profiles.

Why Is a Customer Profile Your Core Target Demographic?

An ideal customer profile is basically the core of a target demographic. As most people are aware, a target demographic is when a business aims their services and resources to a certain group of customers. At first glance, it’d seem as though aspects such as gender, race, age, etc., are the only means of identifying customers; however, there are other traits that should be considered as well, such as financial situation and religious beliefs. Ideal customer profiles make sure to pin down a business’s ideal customer. They are the ones who will gain the most from what they offer based on the type of life they have.

The Importance of Ideal Customer Profiles

Creating ideal customer profiles may seem unimportant, but it actually proves quite beneficial for everyone involved. Copywriters can use the profiles to understand what voice their customers will respond to and ad managers can identify what interests their consumers. Not only that, but creating these profiles can help in the creation of the services and products, as well.  Once an author has their audience in mind, they can choose what writing style they’ll use to appeal to them, what type of content the book will have, which publisher they want to work with, basically all the important parts of creating a book. Ideal customer profiles offer the chance for creators, such as authors, to be even more specific about their audience. This will allow them to figure out ways to make their product available to their patrons.

What Differentiates an Ideal Customer Profile from a Regular One?

An example of an ideal customer profile would be the one Desireé presents in her video. At Black Château, she makes sure to give the people she’s trying to brand to more specific details. She uses young adults as her example and gives the customer profile deeper input like where she’s located,  what type of education she’s receiving, etc. Narrowing these aspects down and appealing to customers with these specifics will create an audience that could expand into more young adults or even other generations.

Ideal Customer Profiles are Freeing, Not Limiting

Creating ideal customer profiles is crucial. Figuring out the target demographic of a product or service isn’t limiting. It’s actually freeing in that certain audiences gravitating towards it can reach out to other customers, as well.
