“A PROMISE IN AUTUMN” TELLS A PROFOUND STORY OF LOVE AND TRAGEDY IN MISSOURI DURING WORLD WAR I AND THE PANDEMIC OF 1918

Barbara Morriss’s New Book Pre-Launches to Stellar Reviews

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Los Angeles, CA: Barbara Morriss’s new novel “A Promise in Autumn” launches on May 8th, 2019. The timing couldn’t be better. Tensions are high in a divisive America. A tale of people coming together during a time of war and uncertainty is sorely needed.  This heart-warming novel reveals an enduring love despite the many challenges set in front of a brave young couple hoping to capture their piece of the American Dream.

In a recent interview, Barbara stated, “About a decade into my retirement from teaching, my husband and I happened onto an ancestral family story of great romance, punishing sadness and rich history. We worked with a genealogist and were able to develop a timeline of truths from old documents and newspaper publications. All the stories in my books were inspired by uncovering my husband’s family story from more than a century ago.”

“A Promise in Autumn” tells the story of Keagan Cadagan, a displaced, poor Irish Catholic girl who struggles to find love and a sense of home. Prior to World War 1, eighteen-year-old Keagan secures employment as a housekeeper and nanny for the Flannigan family. An ominous warning of danger convinces her to flee the home immediately.  What follows is the mysterious disappearance of the Flannigan family, a surprising romance and the Influenza Pandemic of 1918 that envelops the city.

“Another great read by Morriss. The characters, times and places are beautifully described. She writes in a way that makes you want to keep turning the pages to find out what’s next. There’s a little bit of romance, mystery and suspense. Something for everyone.” – Amazon Reader Review
