A proud sponsor for the second year in a row, Black Château collaborates with the West Coast Writers Conferences to bring timely and stimulating programming to genre fiction writers.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Los Angeles, CA – Black Château Enterprises presents two panel discussions at Genre-LA, an annual conference for genre fiction writers from West Coast Writers Conferences (WC2). The rescheduled event happens March 29 – 31, 2019 2019 at the DoubleTree Hotel by Hilton in Culver City, California.

Both panels take place Saturday, March 30th, The first is What a Wonderful World This Could Be, and is designed to explore how a writer’s world is like a character in their book. The panel promises to provoke a response to the question: Who is your world going to be?

Panelists:

  • Howard Hendrix, American scholar and science fiction author of the novels Lightpaths and Standing Wave
  • Mark J. Rose, scientist, screenwriter and author of the Matt Miller in the Colonies Series, Ph.D.
  • Debra Tash, journalist, speaker and author of Last Call—America
  • Sean Patrick Traver, author of Wraith Ladies Who Lunch and Brujachica: The Education of a Witch
  • M: Desireé Duffy, Founder of Black Château and author under the nom de plume Vanta M. Black

Black Château also presents Meet the Scientists, a panel of scientists and experts from different disciplines discussing what they like and dislike in today’s fiction. They will tackle the questions: what do writers get right, and what do they get wrong? The conversation will connect genre writers with the scientists who can galvanize and guide them as they craft their stories.

Panelists:

  • Paul Hynek, Founder and President of EZ Numbers, Adjunct Professor at Pepperdine University and former Director of Business Affairs at Giant Studios
  • Arianna Rama, Pharm.D., J.D., LL.M. clinical scientist, attorney, consultant, educator, and author
  • Mark J. Rose, scientist, screenwriter and author of the Matt Miller in the Colonies Series, Ph.D
  • Donald R. Prothero, Professor of Geology at Cal Poly Pomona, and author of When Humans Nearly Vanished
  • M: Desireé Duffy, Founder of Black Château and author under the nom de plume Vanta M. Black

Duffy says, “Bringing scientists and writers together is an exciting way to inspire the stories people will read tomorrow and ensure that plausible science informs fiction when possible. I’ve wanted to do a panel discussion like this for many years, and am so thankful to make it happen at Genre-LA, which is the perfect venue. Thank you to Tony Todaro and the team at WC2 for inviting us to be part of the Black Château programming for the Genre-LA conference.”

Black Château is also proud to assist in the programming of the Things I Wish a Pro Told Me When I First Started Writing panel Friday, March 29th, 2019 at 4:30pm. Laurie Finkelstein, author of Next Therapist Please, is among the speakers. The panel offers writers a chance to learn writing, pitching, marketing, and deal-making from industry pros.
